I had an interesting conversation with Martin Mai over lunch; he is currently preparing a proposal for media infrastructure funding and wanted to have my opinion on online research tools. We somehow came to Weblogs/Wikis as a platform for academic activities, ranging from publishing news and information on academic departments over assisting collaborative research to creating environments of E-Learning. Martin had heard of Weblogs and Wikis before, but was thinking in the "Personal Journal"-framework.
I was happy to discuss some of the other interesting uses, referring to some of the case studies that were presented at BlogTalk 2.0:)
As far as I know, there are no departments or research facilities at Bamberg University using Weblogs/Wikis (but I might be wrong). Martin seemed pretty interested and might include a request for a Wiki/Weblog Platform plus support in the proposal. I volunteered to assist him in collecting sources/references and might even do some "action research" if a platform gets introduced..
